First day

Tour of Tonnerre: This small town of character: you will discover the Notre Dame church and Saint-Pierre church, the Hotel-Dieu but also the fabulous Fosse Dionne, while passing in the footsteps of the Chevalier d’Éon. You can also discover the flavors of Burgundy by stopping in our typically Tonnerre shops that offer local products.

Departure by bike from Tonnerre to Tanlay: To begin this stay we offer you a bike rental, a day and a half, available at the reception of the Tourist Office Tonnerre. Visit our villages Bourguignons crossing Tonnerre, Tanlay, Ancy-le-Franc or Argentenay, where you will discover a rich heritage full of history.

This charming bistro welcomes you around a local meal accompanied by the best wines of the region. Dishes of the day and pastries “homemade”, aperitif dinner … You can enjoy their terrace and some concerts organized on summer evenings.

Welcome to the property of the Marquis de Tanlay. Property that runs through the centuries and is filled with history may interest young and old. Founded in the 16th century on the foundations of an old fortress which some parts date back to the French Renaissance. Thus its architecture (both Renaissance and classical) offers a perfect balance and an original setting conducive to recent film shoots. This building seduces with its memories of an eventful page in the history of France: to discover a few guided outside and inside tours are available.

Bistro « Le bar du château » : Enjoy the terrace of the Bistro which offers a beautiful view and sipping your favorite drink!

Domaine des Douves at Ancy-le-Franc (meal ordered): Former residence of the steward of the castle of Ancy-le-Franc dating from the late eighteenth century. Opens its doors in respect of the traditions of hospitality and Feast of the original culture of the owners both French and Russian. Warm lodging with a wood of 9 hectares adjoining the park of the castle.

Second day

Visit of Ancy-le-Franc castle: This stunning Renaissance palace is a masterpiece of Serlio, Italian architect for King Francis I of France. It was built in the middle of an enormous park for Antoine III of Clermont, brother-in-law of Diane de Poitiers who was the mistress of King Henry II of France. Home to one of the largest collections of 16thand 17thcentury murals preserved in France today, the castle of Ancy-le-Franc rivals the Palace of Fontainebleau. Explore the richly decorated apartments and the majestic courtyard, as well as the French and English gardens whose two new flowerbed displays won the Victoires du Paysage award in 2018. Many tour options, events and exhibitions are organized throughout the season for the whole family.

Walking along the city and stop at the pottery museum. Thus you will be able to testify of a part of the history of the castle of Ancy-Le-Franc by visiting this museum: a factory of faience which existed formerly beside the castle. From 1992 to 1993 archaeological excavations were carried out on the site of this manufacture. A conserved part of the factory has been rehabilitated as a museum. Five rooms retrace the history of ancient faience found the first room is dedicated to the manufacture of biscuits.

« La Botica » Ancy-le-Franc: summer restaurant in the park of Moulin Neuf at Ancy-le-Franc on the edge of the Burgundy Canal. Plan a little gourmet break in your journey on our territory. Enjoy local products and “homemade” in an idyllic setting between canal and Armançon.

The Forest of Green Giants is located in Argentenay’s public forest and is the creation of land artist Alain Bresson. His monumental plant sculptures are displayed in the forest, made to be seen and enjoyed by everyone. These living sculptures, designed to evolve with the seasons, invite visitors to explore nature with a poetic eye and a touch of humour and to reflect on the future and forest protection. The visit takes an hour or more and is a time for dreaming…
